Pierrot, Budapest
Tucked along a back street in the Buda side of Budapest sits Pierrot. A stones throw away from the Hilton, it is a great place to go for dinner without getting a taxi over the river to the busier Pest.
I had lunch here before heading back to the airport, and it was a fantastic little find. The décor is traditional with a modern twist.
The walls are filled with pictures of all the famous people that have passed through, including Roger Moore, Robert De Niro, Harrsion Ford and Bernie Ecclestone to name but a few.
The lesser known ‘Hungry Latino’ didn’t quite get a photo on the wall, but he did enjoy a fantastic meal.
I started with a duo of rabbit consisting of a terrine, and saddle. It was a very traditional dish, but clearly made to appease the modern taste, with a rich redcurrant jus.
I then had the canon of lamb, with butternut squash puree and mushrooms. Again, a really well put together dish with a nod to the country’s past.
I finished off with a warm chocolate fondant with sour cherry and yoghurt ice cream. I wasn’t a huge fan of the ice cream if truth be told, but the fondant was more than satisfactory.
I had a bottle of the house red, arriving in a carafe so no idea what grape or region, but I can say that it was perfect to match to rabbit, lamb and chocolate.
I usually stay at the Hilton (just up the road) when in Budapest, so I can see myself returning here to see what the latest menu entails.
If you’re that side of the river, give it a go. It certainly beats the ‘Jamie’s Italian’ that’s nearby!!
